Iris Lichtman

Obituary of Iris Lichtman

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Lichtman on October 21, 2024. Born in Puerto Rico in 1931, Iris was the third of four siblings—Sarita, Julie, and Artie. She moved to New York at the age of 16, where she learned to speak English by watching soap operas.

Iris had a zest for life, spending much of her childhood in the restaurants her parents owned in New York and Puerto Rico. As she grew older, she channeled her passion into cosmetology, dedicating herself to proper skincare and passing down her beauty secrets to her children and grandchildren.

Known for her impeccable style, loving nature, and undeniable sassiness, Iris was the heart of her family. She had a knack for telling it like it was, always insisting she was "just goofing."

Iris was a devoted wife to her husband, Melvin, and a loving mother to her four children—Eddie, Lena, Lisa, and Rodney. She was adored by her cherished grandchildren: Steven, Samantha, Nicholas, Stephanie, Olivia, Julia, and Adam.

Iris, whose name means "rainbow," truly embodied its meaning. Like a rainbow, she was full of vibrant colors, bringing brightness to the darkest days, and adding joy and laughter to all lives that crossed her path.

A life well lived and deeply loved, Iris did it her way. She will be missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to The Alzheimer's Association in Iris's honor.

We’ll Always Remember

That special smile, that caring heart.

That warm embrace you always gave us.

You being there for dad and us,

through good and bad times no matter what.

We’ll always remember you, mom, because

there’ll never be anyone to replace you in our hearts.

And the love we will always have for you.
