Sonia Elizabeth Lee Brown Scapito was born in Belize City, Belize on October 1, 1943. She was the fourth born of ten children to Valda and Lee Brown Sr. She was brought up in a Christian home where her love for God was central in her life. Sonia attended the Wesley Methodist (K-8) school and then went on to the Belize Technical College. On graduating from the BTC, she entered the Public Service and was employed in the Government Printing Department. Sonia migrated to the United States of America shortly after the devastating hurricane (Hattie) of 1961.
She was employed as a domestic and took great pride in giving of her best to her employers. She worked assiduously to ensure that her performance was without blemish.

Sonia met and was married to Joseph (Bobby) Scapito on July 4, 1964 and from this union Robert and Corey were born, but Sonia took on her nephew Garry Garnett and granddaughter Sindy with maternal love as if they were her own children. The same can be said for many others as well. Her love for children led her to become the Den Mother for the Cub Scouts Pack No. 742 and later Pack No. 570. She won numerous awards throughout and always showed great leadership that came with lots of love and compassion for others.

Genuinely young at heart, Sonia was a collector of everything "Betty Boop". She had innumerous items in her home all relating to this character. A strong and fearless woman. She faced her illness with indomitable spirit even to the last. She fought a good fight, she has won the heavenly prize. Although both her parents and a sister Barbara predeceased her, she is survived by her husband "Bobby", her children Robert and Corey, her daughter-in-law Berni, her siblings Marie Young, Alma Coye, Sylvia Brown, Laverne Akay, Sandra Black, Cynthia Black, John and Errol Brown. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

And so, Sonia Elizabeth Lee Brown Scapito, beloved wife, dear mother, affectionate sister, esteemed friend, unto God's gracious mercy and protection, we commit you. At your coming, may the holy martyrs receive you and bear you in their arms to the new Jerusalem. For we love you but God loves you best and so we say - FAREWELL. REST IN PEACE.
