Obituary of Giovanna Messina

Giovanna Messina, age 88, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 21, 2020. Giovanna was born May 8, 1932 in Sicily, Italy. She is the daughter of the late Angelo and the late Giuseppina.  Beloved wife of Angelo Messina. Loving mother of Lucia Dioguardi, Giuseppa Jumper and Maria Giovanna Piccirillo. Cherished nonna of Thomas, Vincenzo, Maria Giovanna, Teresa, Gabriella and Gianna.  She is also survived by her sister, sons-in-laws and many nieces and nephews in both America and Italy.

Giovanna married Angelo in Sicily and started their family there.  They came to America in 1969 and made their home in Brooklyn, New York.  She was a seamstress by trade, making women’s clothing.  She dedicated her life to her family.  Through out her life she instilled many Italian traditions to her children and grandchildren.    She was a kind woman, who shared her love, as well as her love of cooking, with her family.  Family dinners will not be the same without her.

A wonderful woman who will be missed by her family and friends.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May Giovanna's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
