Obituary of Genet Joseph Staimphil
Genet Joseph Staimphil, age 86, was called home to God peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023. Genet was born in Cotes du Fer, Haiti, and emigrated to New York from Port au Prince in 1968, where he eventually completed a career in public service working for Catholic Charities for almost two decades. In his spare time, he also taught ESL. A multilingual man, following his retirement, Genet went on to work as a linguist translating books from English to French, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. He was also fluent in Latin. His love for languages continued until he became gravely ill leaving behind personal written works such as a memoir, poems, and prayers.
Genet preceded in death by his father Milicius Estinfil Joseph and mother Icermante Du Jour.
He is survived by his daughters Raucheline Akindele (Olusola Akindele) and Michelle Moise (formerly known as Weakley); his five grandchildren Remi, Tomi, Lola Akindele and Auguste and Isaac Weakley; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Genet was a gentle-spirited soul and always kept a smile. He will be missed by his family, and the Haitian community he so loved.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, January 5 at Mary Queen of Heaven R.C. Church, 1395 East 56th Street, Brooklyn.
Niche entombment will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1629 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn.
During this time of remembrance and reflection, the family welcomes expressions of compassion and condolences on the Tribute Wall tab.
As we bid farewell to Genet, let us celebrate the warmth and love he brought to our lives and find solace in the cherished memories he leaves behind. May he rest in eternal peace.
