Obituary of Theodore T. Dowd
Theodore Thomas “Ted” Dowd, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Ted was born December 29, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY to Thomas Dowd and Sarah (Nagle) and was the youngest of six children. As a young man, he earned a scholarship to attend high school at St. Michael’s and later studied at St. John’s University.
Ted was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and often shared amazing stories of his time in Korea. He always spoke fondly of those he fought alongside and remembered those lost in the war. His commitment to this country was unwavering.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Maureen (Traub), his parents and siblings, brothers Thomas, Edwin, Francis, John, and sister Margaret. And his many treasured pets, Smokey, Ginger, Purry Black, Breezy and KittyKat.
Ted leaves behind four children, Debbie, Kevin (Beth Alice), Michele (Gerard) and Nadine (Edward), eleven grandchildren Melissa (Steve), Kristin (Keith), Danielle, Gerard, Theodore, William, Thomas, Gavin (Cait), Emily, Nathaniel, and Erin and three great-grandchildren Sadie, Scarlett, and Brody. Beloved cat Peekaboo. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Reposing on Thursday, August 29 from 2:00 - 5:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 9:30 AM on Friday, August 30 at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 204-25 Rockaway Point Blvd., Breezy Point, Queens.
Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
